How to eFile a bond motion (Forfeiture) on eCourts.

North Carolina is in the process of adopting a new electronic court filing system named eCourts. This system mandates that all court documents be submitted electronically. Bondsmen are now required to file their motions through the new online platform called “eCourts File & Serve” within the eCourts Portal once specific counties transitions to this platform.

North Carolina courts are transitioning from paper to digital. Learn about eCourts and access FAQs, trainings, and resources.

Portal allows the general public and registered users to access court information online, including searching for court dates and records, and making payments for fines and fees.

eFiling (File & Serve) offers secure online access for attorneys and self-represented litigants to submit court documents online to the clerk’s office in eCourts counties, pay filing fees, and receive filing status updates via email. Attorneys are required to use eFiling in eCourts counties, and users must register for an account to access File & Serve.

How to Serve School Board or District Attorneys by County.

The new North Carolina eCourts system is replacing the traditional paper-based system and is currently live in half of the state. Under this new system, bond forfeiture motions must be filed electronically. Additionally, notices to the District Attorney and the School Board Attorney will transition to electronic notifications through the system. However, this process varies by county at this time.

Below, the NCBAA has compiled a working list that is regularly updated to provide bondsmen with information on filing requirements for each county. Filing methods may differ depending on the county, as the District Attorney and School Board Attorney may have specific preferences.
